Eating and drinking
Eating out in country Andalucia is exceptionally good value. There is a wide choice of local restaurants in the area from simple rustic fare to more sophisticated cuisine. You can eat well from 6 euros per head. We provide guests with our own bar and restaurant guide.
If you don’t want to drive for more than five minutes, you will find Venta Pastelero (Paco’s restaurant) in our local hamlet. People drive from miles around to eat here and we are fortunate that it is so close.
Shopping
Small local supermarkets and local shops such as a bakers and butchers can be found in the local villages, Villanueva de la Concepcion and Almogia. In Antequera, 20 minutes away, there are larger supermarkets and a hypermarket, and other interesting shops and boutiques.
In Malaga you can find a huge choice of shopping including Carrefour hypermarkets, the El Corte Ingles department stores and many interesting shops in the city centre.
Sightseeing
Andalucia offers a wide range of interesting cities and places to visit. Casa Miranda is within driving distance of a number of such places including Granada and it’s Al Hambra, Seville, Cordoba, and Antequera. Both Lonely Planet and the Rough Guide publish informative guidebooks about Andalucia. We also have maps and tourist information available at the house.
For Children
For many children the pool is the centre of their fun, but we also find they love the opportunity to roam freely in the countryside, far from the dangers of any road. In the meadows around the house they will find plenty to discover, as well as trees to climb, camps to make and nature to explore. There is a swing under an ancient holm oak tree; it has fabulous views!
The beach is only one hour away so day trips are easy. We can advise on good beaches to visit. For other activities tennis, riding and golf are on offer locally. Inside the house there are cards, games, some toys for young children, a CD player, DVD player and books and magazines.
Golf
Golfers can tee off at the new Antequera golf course, 20 minutes from the house: www.golfantequera.com
Walking and Hiking
For keen or amateur walkers and nature lovers the opportunity to walk in the nearby El Torcal national park is highly recommended.
El Torcal is a large, plateau topped mountain of eroded grey limestone, which originated on the seabed during the Jurassic period, 150 million years ago. Its landscape of unusual rock formations is considered to be one of most impressive anywhere in the world, and has often been used in science fiction films.
From the visitor centre you can take a number of walking routes, some of which have magnificent views of the surrounding countryside (and on a clear day you can see the coast of Africa).
Wild orchids, irises and peonies are just some of the 650 species of flora found in the park. Bird lovers may spot Griffon vultures, falcons, eagles and sparrow hawks.
Riding
There are two stables locally that you can ride from and we can provide their details upon request.
Tennis
There is a tennis court available for rental at the hotel La Posada del Torcal, ten minutes away.
Skiing
The Sol y Nieve ski resort in the Sierra Nevada mountains is 2 ½ hours drive from the house. There is an excellent, modern lift network, good access, skiing to 3000 metres and vertical descents of 1000 metres.
